KidsCast Data & Privacy Summary
Overview:
KidsCast is a student-led podcasting service provided to schools on a fortnightly basis. It enables students to record, edit, and publish podcast episodes that showcase school news, events, and student voices.
Data Collected:
Student voice recordings (audio files)
Student first names or pseudonyms used in episodes (only if the school permits)
Minimal additional identifying data (e.g., episode titles, dates)
Data Storage & Handling:
Audio files are uploaded securely to cloud storage compliant with Australian data privacy standards.
Raw and edited files are retained only for the duration of the podcast production cycle (generally one school term) unless otherwise requested by the school.
Schools have full editorial control and approve all content before publication.
Consent & Permissions:
Participation requires approval and consent from school administration. Schools are responsible for obtaining any necessary parent/guardian permissions as per their policies.
KidsCast does not independently collect parental consent.
Security Measures:
Access to audio files is limited to authorized KidsCast team members and school staff only.
Data transfer uses encrypted methods (e.g., secure file transfer protocols).
No student data is shared outside the school community without explicit permission.
Content Hosting & Publishing:
Final episodes are hosted on popular podcast platforms and/or private school portals as agreed.
Episodes are publicly accessible only if the school permits.
Schools can request removal or edits of any episode at any time.
Third-Party Services:
KidsCast uses third-party podcast hosting platforms compliant with Australian privacy laws.
Any additional software used in editing or production is similarly vetted for compliance.
Data Retention & Deletion:
Upon request, all student data (audio files, related metadata) can be permanently deleted from KidsCast storage.
Schools control the ongoing management and retention of podcast content.
